UCAS Registration

Evening,

Well I didn't wake up early like I was supposed to, so I made up for it by registering with UCAS and starting to fill in my application. It doesn't seem willing to accept that I already have a degree though, which isn't completely surprising, but annoying. So I'll have to ring them tomorrow when I get home from work and find out if there's a way of adding it. Same with adding AS levels, I did it once years ago but don't seem to be able to do it now. Dumbass!

Busy Week

Morning,

It's been a busy week. Last saturday I met up with Alex, Gregg, Jenelle and Francis (and later Alex' housemate and her friend) and we had a night out drinking and dancing. We met at Alex' house, then went to O'Neills, and the Purple Turtle. The Purple Turtle was cool, as it was Halloween and a lot of people were there dressed up, The Evil Dead was playing on the tv's there, and there were a few Halloween themed songs played. Somehow managed to get everyone dancing to Monster mash, all copying what I was doing which was good fun, and then loved Ghost Town by The Specials and of course Thriller, which had Alex doing the 'werewolf' dance through most of it!

Then we went to Bar Iguana where there were 2 DJ's alternating between Dub and Dubstep. There were 3 older guys in their late 30s on an old style DJ set playing Dub, and then a spotty 18 year old dressed like a chav DJ'ing with all the bells and whistles (not really, but there was quite a bit of flair as he scratched away). Was a good night, and it was good to have a 'big' night out again. It's coming up to a year of us having met, as Alex, Jenelle, Francis and I all lived in the same house back in November last year.

This week I was on lates so was kept busy, and I also managed to fit in asking a lady in the local hospital if I could possibly spend some time with them to support my UCAS application. The lady said that they require you to have spent time in both diagnostic and therapeutic to take your application seriously, and I have already ticked diagnostic off. I'll be going in for a few hours to begin with, and then have the option of going in again afterwards if everything goes well. I emailed her with dates I can go while I'm on lates in a few weeks time which will avoid my having to take time off work, but no reply yet :(

Went shopping for a few hours this afternoon for a new winter coat, scarf and gloves and came home with a quiche and some Smarties cookies. Oh well. Tonight I met up with Gregg, Marc, Alex and his girlfriend Amy and we went to Riseley's (in North Hampshire apparently) fireworks display. It was pretty awesome, and it was good to have a sober giggle with everyone, for possibly the first time ever! Well, I was sober meeting them for a drink last week while on call, but I think it's the first time we've done something (apart from the cinema). I agreed to a night out this Friday but I've now realised that I'm working next weekend, which kinda puts a dampener on that. Damn.

Time for bed now. Night all,

The End of Call Out

Yay!!

Last night I got called in for 23.30 and toddled off into work quite happily. Got home and settled down to bed.

Got woken up at 2.30am by a very chirpy courier who is known for his grumpiness, and general rudeness. 1 sample arriving at 3.30am. Was not too impressed! Snoozed until 3.20 and then dragged myself out of bed and into a taxi. I was kinda surprised at how light it was at that time of the morning, and quite misty too.

Left the lab at 3.56am and we are able to start later when we get called out after 12am, it's called stand down time (or catch up on sleep and have a lie in time). So I went in today at 1.30pm and claimed back my 3 hours and 56 minutes which was a nice touch. In at 1.30pm, out at 5pm.

So apart from that it's been a good week, quite quiet with only the 5 call outs, and hopefully the money at the end of it will make it seem even rosier in a month's time ;)

PhotoSoc

Evening,

I went to my first meeting of the Photography Society today. Was a bit early due to needing to get the bus there and I didn't know how long it would take to get there, and I also left time so that I could find the building and room, as I've never been on the University campus before. It was interesting walking around at 6.30pm in the dark with my GPS on my Hero guiding me! Couldn't believe how much difference the 1 hour on the clocks has made!

The topic of the meeting was Composition, and I thought it was pretty well presented. It's good that they are starting at the basics, and that I'm not the only one without an SLR, the only non-student or even the only one whose first week it was! Everyone seemed pretty friendly and I got along well with them so that's always a plus.

I then went to meet some friends from my old house as it's Grange Tuesday. Had to stick to lemonade though due to being on call, and the phone went off while I was there too. Got the taxi to pick me up from there and then went and processed the samples, and then took a taxi home and am now going to tuck up in bed for the night.

That Wasn't So Bad...Jinx!

Morning,

Turned up at 21.25 and the courier arrived at 22.05. Ah well, I'll get paid for sitting there chatting to the security guard while waiting for him to arrive so all is not lost. Came home an hour and a half after I left and it didn't feel like it had been that long so that's a good thing. Then headed to bed about 1ish, and didn't get another phone call thankfully.

Clocks changed today! My HTC Hero did it automatically, but the call out phone is set not to update automatically from the network for some reason so I did it manually when I woke up at half 10 this morning. I did realise that last night I put the plates set up time as 11am before the clock changed, so hopefully they will have realised. If not I'll be the one on cancelling duty on Monday anyway so I will at least be able to give an accurate reason as to why it was missed!

Sometimes I worry too much.

First One!

Evening,

At weekends you're pretty much guaranteed to get called out. Weekdays the late shift team stay until at least 9pm, so you hope that if there's a callout that it will get there early enough that they can do it. Well on weekends there are only 3 people in all day and they are usually out by 5.30pm. Which leaves a lot of time until they will be next in at 9.30am the next day.

So the phone has rung, and the samples are due to arrive at 9.15pm. I'm trying to watch 28 Days at the moment - I say trying, because the disc is skipping every 3 or 4 minutes and between different scenes which makes it rather frustrating. I love Sandra Bullock though, if she's in a film then I will make sure I watch it regardless. So I'm sitting here trying to watch it :)

Hope the postal strike clears the backlog of mail so I can get my Tesco DVDs delivered, finished both dvds today.

One Night Down

Afternoon,

Well I didn't get called out, and Tom's house wasn't ransacked (long story) so a good night was had by all :)

Dragged my ass into town today, because I knew if I didn't I wouldn't leave the house at all this weekend apart from if I was called out. So I now have my very first laundry hamper, which will make Leah smile as she was nagging me to get one. And I got some more library books and handed in the film for my disposable cameras that I took to Reading Festival with me two months ago. I also bought a 'print' for my room. Haven't figured out where or how to put it up yet, but it was cheap and it made me smile.

Hope you have a good day

xx
